Scientists from Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science have discovered new terrestrial snail species in Iceland

A team of biologists from Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science have made a significant discovery in the field of biodiversity. As part of their long-term research into Icelandic nature, they have discovered four rare species of terrestrial snail previously unrecorded in Iceland.

A year ago, Science magazine listed altermagnets as one of nine breakthrough discoveries. Now, physicists from the Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science in Brno and Osaka Metropolitan University have come up with results that further advance our understanding of this new type of magnetic material.

Masaryk University and DPMB Collaborate to Improve Public Transport Accessibility for People with Sensory Disabilities

Masaryk University, specifically a team from the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science led by social geographer Robert Osman, is working on a research project focused on the accessibility of urban public transport for people with visual and hearing impairments.

IT Equipment loan for students in need

The Faculty of Science has been provided with 14 laptops, 25 tablets, 22 graphics tablets, 9 headphones with a microphone and webcams with a microphone from a MU project to support online education. Offered IT equipment is intended for students in need and will be provided as a loan.

MU Faculty of Science at STEM Festival in Kuřim for the first time

This year, we participated in the two-day STEM festival for the first time, which was organized for the third year by TE Connectivity at its production plant in Kuřim. The event was visited by more than 2,000 elementary and secondary school students from Brno and the surrounding area.

Dean’s Awards 2025

Dean Tomáš Kašparovský ceremoniously presented the Dean’s Awards to the most successful students for their outstanding academic and scientific achievements. For 2025, eight laureates received awards within the category Best Student in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Programme, and eleven promising scientists received awards in the category Best Student in a Doctoral Degree Programme.
This year's awards were also exceptional in that outstanding teachers were also honoured for the first time. This award expresses recognition for their extraordinary contribution to educational activities, inspiring students, supporting the academic environment and actively participating in scientific work.
We warmly congratulate all the award winners and thank them for their efforts, which contribute greatly to the reputation of our faculty.

Teaching That Matters: Successful Projects and a New Award

Sharing ideas and teaching experiences, lively discussions, and the presentation of a new Vice-Rector’s Award for Quality Teaching were part of the inspiring event Excursion into Good Teaching, attended by educators from Masaryk University.
The Vice-Rector’s Award for Education and Quality at MU for excellent teaching was presented to Milan Chytrý from the Department of Botany and Zoology and Pavel Pracný from the Department of Geological Sciences.
Congratulations to both awardees!
